How to Join LM-A

Our Confession

Lutheran Mission-Australia (LM-A) exists to serve congregations, pastors, and members who wish to continue their Lutheran tradition of full reliance on God’s word. From this foundation, we seek to witness the full Gospel of repentance, forgiveness, and eternal life.

Our doctrines and teaching are expressed in our confessional statement which reflects our unconditional subscription to the Book of Concord and our continued commitment to the Thesis of Agreement. LM-A members are expected to commit to this confessional statement either through their congregation or individually.

Our constitution

LM-A is a public company limited by guarantee. While this structure perhaps seems a little legalistic and un-churchlike, it is considered the most appropriate structure for a body such as LM-A. Those wishing to join LM-A should familiarize themselves with our constitution, which sets out both the establishment and on-going operation of LM-A.

Two phases toward a synod

LM-A is currently in the initial membership phase and is governed by three directors, including our President, Pastor Matthew Anker. These directors are advised by a committee of management. During this time, aligning congregations can be accepted as members, and new congregations may be established where there is a need. The initial membership phase will conclude when there are sufficient member-congregations to form a workable quorum, enabling the first Convention of Synod to take place.

LM-A recognizes that a great many confessional Lutherans will belong to congregations that will continue their alignment with the LCA. Initially at least, many of these people will not have access to a LM-A congregation. During the initial membership phase, we offer individual LM-A membership to these people. Individual membership offers the opportunity of committing to an emerging church that seeks to be faithful to the whole of God’s Word. We look forward to the time when a great majority of confessional Lutherans can hold membership and worship in an LM-A congregation. In all cases, individual membership of LM-A ceases at the first Convention of Synod.

Individuals and congregations considering joining LM-A should make initial contact via the form below. We undertake to respond promptly to your enquiry.

God willing, we look forward to a growing church where the Truth of His Word prevails against the influence of the world.
